Role and Impact of the World Bank
Since 2004, the World Bank has been collaborating with the Government of Bangladesh on the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROSC) project. Following the unprecedented success of Phases I & II, the World Bank expanded its support for the ROSC-III mega-project in 2026. The core objective of the World Bank's funding is to bring children from the poorest families in marginalized rural areas and urban slums back to school. Through this, the World Bank is playing a pioneering role in achieving Bangladesh's "Education for All" goals.
Deep Analysis: Where the Funding Works
Stipends for Poverty Alleviation
A significant portion of the World Bank's massive funding reaches poor families directly as conditional cash transfers (Stipends). This encourages families to send their children to school instead of forcing them into child labor.
Prioritizing Girls' Education
One of the project's greatest successes is the participation of girls. According to World Bank data, at least 50% of the participants in this initiative are girls, which helps prevent early marriage and empowers women in rural societies.
Pre-Vocational & Skills Training
ROSC-III is not limited to primary education. To make dropped-out adolescents self-reliant, pre-vocational (technical) training is also provided with World Bank support, paving the way for their future employment.
